Women’s soccer: Arizona tops No. 16 Washington State 1-0

Jessica Nelson’s 36th-minute goal lifted Arizona past No. 16 Washington State 1-0 in a Pac-12 Conference match Friday in Pullman.

Washington State had a 25-12 shot advantage, but couldn’t get any past Wildcats’ (9-4-1, 3-3) keeper Lainey Burdett, who made a career-high nine saves.

The loss snapped the Cougars’ three-match win streak. WSU (11-3, 4-2) hosts Stanford on Thursday.

Eagles set season-high in goals, beat Lumberjacks

Eastern Washington scored three first-half goals and beat Northern Arizona 4-2 in a Big Sky Conference match in Cheney.

The four goals were a season-high for the Eagles. Jenny Chavez, Chloe Williams and Delaney Romero all scored in the first half for the Eagles and Tasha Luu put Eastern ahead 4-0 with her second-half goal.

The Lumberjacks fell to 7-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Big Sky.

The Eagles (11-2-1, 5-1) will look to set a program record for conference wins when they take on Southern Utah at home on Sunday.

Poertner, Vandals win sixth-straight

Josilyn Daggs had three assists and goalkeeper Amanda Poertner set a school record with her seventh shutout in Idaho’s 4-0 Big Sky Conference win over Southern Utah (6-7-1, 1-4-1) in Moscow, Idaho.

The win was the Vandals’ sixth in a row. Kavita Battan, Alyssa Lloyd, Olivia Baggerly and Elexis Schlossarek all scored goals for Idaho (10-4-1, 6-0), which plays Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Arizona, on Sunday.
