Volleyball roundup: San Diego earns WCC win over Gonzaga

Lisa Kramer had 21 kills and four blocks and Kriste Gengenbacher added 51 assists and 15 digs as San Diego (13-6, 7-1) topped Gonzaga (12-9, 3-5) in a West Coast Conference match in San Diego. Scores were 25-18, 21-25, 25-23 and 25-11.

GU’s Savannah Blinn tallied a team-high 15 kills, marking the 10th-straight match that she’s posted double-digit kill totals.

The Bulldogs play Portland next Saturday in the first of three straight home matches.

Grizzlies snap Eagles’ eight-match win streak

Hannah Sackett had 31 kills and 17 digs and Montana (5-15, 1-7) snapped Eastern Washington’s eight-match win streak with a five-set Big Sky Conference win in Missoula, Montana. Scores were 19-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16 and 20-18.

EWU’s Ana Jakovljevic had 17 kills and Allie Schumacher and Jessica Gilbert added 16 apiece. The Eagles (12-7, 7-1) play at Big Sky foe Idaho State on Thursday.

Ryter, Peterson help Vandals top Bobcats

Idaho continued its dominance over Montana State, sweeping the Bobcats in a Big Sky Conference match in Bozeman, Montana. Scores were 25-21, 26-24 and 25-22.

The win was the Vandals’ fourth straight and it was Idaho’s 16th straight over Montana State (3-13, 1-7), dating back to 1990.

DeVonne Ryter and Katelyn Peterson had 10 kills apiece for the Vandals (8-12, 5-3), who play Weber State in Ogden, Utah, on Thursday.

Whitworth sweeps Puget Sound for fourth straight win

Nicole Leonard had 16 kills and 18 digs and Maddy Dinsmore added 33 assists and 12 digs as Whitworth (14-6, 8-2) swept Puget Sound (8-10, 5-5) in a Northwest Conference match in Spokane. Scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-14.

The win was the Pirates’ fourth straight. They wrap up their five-match homestand Wednesday against Whitman.

Sasquatch fall to Linn-Benton in third-place match

Community Colleges of Spokane fell to Linn-Benton (30-5) 25-19, 25-20 in the third-place match at the Lower Columbia Crossover tournament in Longview, Washington.

The Sasquatch (18-25) beat Lower Columbia (15-14) and lost to Walla Walla (21-14) earlier in the day.
