Lewis and Clark volleyball coach resigns, interim coach named

Former North Idaho College and Central Valley volleyball coach Chris Kosty has taken over as Lewis and Clark’s head coach on an interim basis, athletic director Jeff Norton said Monday.

Cherryanne Coballes, in her second year at LC, resigned Oct. 7 for personal reasons, Norton said. At the time, LC was 3-2 in the Greater Spokane League.

Kosty, a special education teacher at LC, was serving as LC’s freshman coach when promoted to replace Coballes.

In his first two matches as the interim coach last week, LC lost to Mt. Spokane and University, teams ahead of the Tigers in the league standings.

LC (3-4) finishes league play tonight at league-leading Central Valley (7-0) before finishing at home Thursday against Gonzaga Prep.

The Tigers are fighting for the final postseason seed for district.

Norton said a search for a permanent head coach will take place at a later date. As an in-district teacher, Kosty would be welcome to apply for the position, Norton said.

Coballes was not a teacher.
