It’s a s’more in a glass.

Indaba Coffee is offering a new drink for fall. The S’more Gibraltar is being sold at the coffee shop’s downtown location through December.

The $5 espresso-based beverage features graham crackers and marshmallows made by Batch Bakeshop in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood, along with house-roasted coffee and chocolate. It’s a collaboration between downtown Indaba manager Evan Lovell and Batch owner Mika Maloney.

Additional specialty drinks are slated to be released in November and December, Indaba owner Bobby Enslow said.

Founded in 2009, Indaba is a social benefit coffee company that aims to provide internships and employment for at-risk youth as well as meals for people in need through every bag of coffee the shop sells.

The downtown location is at 210 N. Howard St. On the Web: www.indabacoffee.com

Chef, wine enthusiast share stories at TEDxSpokane

Saturday’s TEDxSpokane 2015 event features talks by a local chef and wine enthusiast.

Executive chef Bob Lombardi will reflect on “Food as Ministry.” The faith-based talk relates his experience – as a culinary arts teacher at Spokane Community College, Food Network contestant and corporate chef at Black Rock Development and the Club at Black Rock – with select Bible verses.

Sarah Wolcott will discuss shedding pretense to learn about wine and enjoy it for its own sake in her “Myth Busting Wine” talk. She holds a bachelor’s of arts in Spanish literature from Whitman College and master’s of business administration from the Bordeaux Business School in France.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Saint George’s School, W. 2929 Waikiki Road. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $35. College students pay $25. Middle and high school students pay $20.

What a pair: Craft beer and Girl Scout cookies

Craft beer and Girl Scout cookies combine at Saturday’s third annual Craft Beer and Cookie Fest.

“We’ve found that this event is a great way to break out of the traditional fundraising box and connect with the community in a new and fun way. We’ve also found that the Goatmeal Stout from Iron Goat Brewing pairs perfectly with our peanut butter Do-Si-Dos,” said Girl Scouts events specialist Stephanie May.

This year’s fest features eight breweries and nine beer and cookie pairings. Participating breweries are: Iron Goat Brewing Co., River City Brewing, English Setter Brewing, Lagunitas Brewing Co., Black Label Brewing Co., Alaskan Brewing Co., Waddell’s Brewing Co. and New Boundary Brewing Co.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets include three 4-ounce pours, cookies and a sausage from Nick’s Shameless Sausages. Attendees must be 21 or older.

Girl Scouts Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho serves more than 4,100 girls and encompasses 20 counties in central and Eastern Washington and 10 counties in northern Idaho.

Funds raised at the beer-and-cookie fest will go toward Girl Scout scholarships and programming. The event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Girl Scout Program Center, 1404 N. Ash St.

October issue

Latah Creek Wine Cellars won a couple of medals in the prestigious Sunset International Wine Competition.

Founded in Spokane in 1982, Latah Creek won a gold medal for its NV Huckleberry d’Latah. It also won a silver medal for its 2013 Familigia Vineyard Riesling.

The contest took place at the magazine’s campus in Silicon Valley in April. Results were published in the October “Best of Wine Country” issue.

Also published in the issue – in non-food-related news – are a photo of and short story about Ethan Schlussler’s backyard treehouse in Sandpoint. It’s featured in the new book “Cabin Porn” by Zach Klein, co-founder of Vimeo, who has a Tumblr by the same name.

That’s hot

Spokane’s 3 Ninjas food truck is seeking $12,000 in a Kickstarter campaign to expand its hot sauce business.

The project will only be funded if the goal is met by Oct. 31.

The 3 Ninjas Mobile Food and Catering truck formed last year and began making its own hot sauces from scratch. Flavor profiles include Smokey Jalapeno, Mango Habanero, Habanero Pepper Jelly and the Jamaican-style Sweet Melissa with Scotch bonnet and jalapeno peppers, garlic and cilantro.

A successful Kickstarter campaign could help 3 Ninjas go from making small batches daily to moving into a larger facility and up production.
