Silverwood to add giant water slide in 2016

The next big thing coming to Silverwood Theme Park north of Coeur d’Alene will be a giant water slide at the Boulder Beach Water Park, the park announced Wednesday.

The mat-racing slide will stand 56 feet tall with six side-by-side racing lanes down 406 feet of slide. It will accommodate up to 900 guests an hour, with riders reaching speeds of 30 mph.

“Riders will lie down head-first on an aerodynamic mat and push out of the starting gate down the winding tubes,” Silverwood said in a news release. “Gaining speed, they will then converge into the final stretch to determine the ultimate winner.”

The name of the new attraction will be determined in a contest, as the park has done with other rides.

“We are extremely excited about adding this new slide to our mix,” said Paul Norton, the park’s general manager. “This will be a unique attraction where families and friends can ride at the same time competing time and time again for bragging rights.”

Silverwood recently purchased the slide from Whitewater Water Parks Attraction Co.

Silverwood is the largest theme and water park in the Northwest with over 70 rides, slides and other attractions across 221 acres on U.S. Highway 95 just south of Athol.
