Woman accused of attacking man with knives

A woman is accused of attempting to stab a man and then ramming the knife through a bathroom door when the man locked himself inside.

The victim told police that Paula Nieves, 48, came to his home in the 1700-block of W. Gardner Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, used a knife to cut the screen out of his locked screen door and let herself in, according to court documents. He said that she tried to stab him and nicked him with a knife as he tried to get away.

Nieves was ordered held in the Spokane County Jail on $100,000 bond on suspicion of first-degree burglary and first-degree assault Wednesday.

The man said that he was able to lock himself in the bathroom with his roommate. Both men told police that they saw the knife blade come through the door as Nieves attempted to break in, according to court documents.

The man said that Nieves is a friend of his girlfriend’s grandmother, and she doesn’t approve of his relationship with his girlfriend, according to court documents.

Police recovered three knives and a letter opener at the scene. Officers reported that Nieves appeared to be intoxicated, according to court documents.
