Prep roundup: Cheney boys, Pullman girls win 2A district titles

Cheney had four runners finish inside the top 10 and the Blackhawks edged Pullman for the boys team title at the District 7 2A cross country meet at Beachview Park Saturday in Clarkston.

Pullman’s Tim Pendry claimed medalist honors after covering the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 8.90 seconds. West Valley’s Jacob Nicholson was second in 16:17.46.

Drake Johnson (16:20.18) led Cheney with a third-place finish. The Blackhawks’ Matt Christianson was fifth (16:25.77), Kaleb Lerch was eighth (16:43.77)and Jack Peabody was ninth (16:45.10).

West Valley was third, followed by East Valley and Clarkston.

Pullman won the girls team title. East Valley’s Brittany Aquino was the individual champion in 18:21.79. She was followed by a Greyhound trio of Elyria Kabasenche (19:37.49), Madeline Walker (19:18.11) and Charity Cordova (19:24.24).

Cheney was second, followed by East Valley, West Valley and Clarkston.

The top two teams and top 10 individuals for both genders qualified for the regional meet in Ellensburg.

St. George’s boys, Northwest Christian girls win titles at districts

Northwest Christian’s Jack Ammon repeated as individual champion, but St. George’s edged the Crusaders for the team title at the District 7 1B/2B meet at Audubon Park in Spokane.

Ammon covered the 5,000-meter course in 16:33.22. Ammon’s teammate, Micah Henry, was second in 16:34.26.

Nathan Vanos led St. George’s with a third-place finish in 16:54.51. Northwest Christian won the previous three district titles.

For the girls, Northwest Christian edged Reardan for the team title.

St. George’s Madison Ward was first in 19:22.82 and Marika Morelan was second in 19:31.36.

The Crusaders’ Rebekah Henry tooko fourth in 21:19.46 and teammate Madison Janke was fifth in 21:19.80.

Football: Sandpoint dumps Grangeville

Sandpoint 47, Grangeville 12: Kyle Perry ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns to guide Sandpoint (5-4) past Grangeville in a nonleague game in Grangeville.

Davan Norris added two touchdown passes to Wyatt Cox for Sandpoint.

Clark Fork 20, Lewis County 12: Wade Stevens ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as the Wampus Cats edged Lewis County in a White Star League game in Clark Fork.

Girls soccer: East Valley tops Clarkston

East Valley 5, Clarkston 1: The Knights (12-3, 10-2) scored four second-half goals and beat the Bantams (6-8, 5-7) in a Great Northern League regular season finale in Clarkston.

East Valley’s Chloe Gellhaus opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and Shannon Frucci, Hannah Burland, Chelsea Love and Micaela Verdal all scored in the second half.

Pullman 2, Cheney 1 (SO): The Knights (1-14, 0-12) edged the Greyhounds (6-9, 4-7) 4-3 in a shootout in a Great Northern League match in Cheney.

Pullman’s Sierra Robinson and Cheney’s Lelie Holland scored first-half goals.
