The Dirt: Hagadone tower to rise 12 stories in downtown Coeur d’Alene

Hagadone Hospitality’s proposed new hotel tower in downtown Coeur d’Alene would rise 12 stories above Sherman Avenue.

The slender guest room tower, about 40 feet wide, would span the west end of Hagadone’s Resort Plaza Shops. Rooms would face west toward Independence Point and Lake Coeur d’Alene.

The company anticipates the tower would have 158 rooms and 10 suites.

Construction would begin about a year from now and take about 18 months to finish.

Longwell+Trapp Architects of Hayden submitted the tower proposal this week to the Coeur d’Alene design review commission, which will hold a public meeting Nov. 19.

On the north end of the tower, the building would step back from Sherman at a height of 45 feet and again at 75 feet. On the south end, an enclosed walkway would link the tower to the Coeur d’Alene Resort. The walkway would be a bridge over Front Avenue and the Centennial Trail.

Hagadone also proposes adding another level atop its parking structure at the resort.

Investment group buys Spokane River building

The RLH Building on the Spokane River’s north bank has sold to an investment group involving Goodale & Barbieri principals and a Utah family enterprise.

The six-story structure at 201 W. North River Drive in Spokane has 100,000 square feet of office space and a 252-car parking garage. Major tenants are Red Lion Hotels Corp., HomeStreet Bank, TransCanada Corp., Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance, Wipfli LLP and Farmers Insurance.

The investment group includes Goodale & Barbieri principals David Peterson, executive vice president and chief operating officer; and Tom Barbieri, president.

Goodale & Barbieri Co., a Spokane real-estate development and property management firm, built the building in 1985 and will continue to manage the property. In a news release, the purchasing group cited interest in the structure amid revitalization of Spokane’s riverbank, with the upcoming $60 million renovation of Riverfront Park.

Spiceologist opens on Cowley Street

Spiceologist, a rub and spice retailer, has opened its first store, at 125 S. Cowley St. just east of downtown Spokane.

Launched in 2013, the Spokane-based company plans a grand opening from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 2. Spiceologist leases nearly 8,000 square feet at the new location for both a production area and retail shop.

Co-founders, chef Pete Taylor and flood blogger Heather Scholten, developed products blending natural ingredients for cooking spices and rubs. It also sells a modular spice organizing system for spices, herbs and salts.
