Prep roundup: CV girls soccer team eliminates Mead

After letting an early two-goal advantage disappear, the Central Valley girls soccer team responded in a shootout and beat Mead 3-2 in a District 8 4A elimination match Tuesday at Central Valley.

The Bears outscored the Panthers 4-2 in the shootout.

Central Valley took control early, with goals by Madylyn Simmelink in the 1st minute and Kaite Van Etten in the 11th minute giving the Bears a 2-0 lead.

But Mead’s Cheris Brown scored in the 28th minute to cut the deficit in half and Olivia Sloan scored in the 73rd minute to send it to overtime.

Van Etten, Kaelyn Barnes, Anna Hilbert and Natalie Cabiad scored shootout goals for CV. Katie Kuka and Alex Chambers scored in the shootout for Mead.

Central Valley advances to play at Gonzaga Prep on Thursday.

Volleyball: Pullman claims share of GNL title

Sydney Lawrence had 15 kills and Melissa Langerveld added 29 digs and four aces as Pullman topped Cheney in a Great Northern League regular-season finale in Cheney. Scores were 27-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-21.

The win gave the Greyhounds a share of the league title. Pullman and Cheney both finished at 8-4 in the GNL.

Peyton Stark had 32 assists for the Blackhawks.

Elsewhere in the GNL, Jordan Phelan had 18 kills and Brooklyn Juris added 24 digs as East Valley (7-5) outlasted host Clarkston (5-7) in five sets. Scores were 24-26, 26-18, 25-23, 17-25 and 16-14.

Molly Eggelston had 25 assists and three aces for the Bantams.
