Employ trained marksmen

Our nation mourns the tragic deaths of the innocent shooting victims at a college in Roseburg, Oregon.

A while ago, I taught in a public high school in Colorado. When the doors were open until the doors closed, there was a uniformed police officer at the school with his gun. I felt very safe. I personally felt more secure than when I have taught in every public school building in Colville, Chewelah or Kettle Falls.

The answer to the bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, ready and on the spot. The best solution is what is taking place in a number of schools: Have a uniformed police officer with a gun. However, this is expensive.

My solution is to have a trained marksman there with a gun. This could be a person who is there everyday like a member of the janitorial, teaching or clerical staff. It is too bad that this good person with a gun was not on the college grounds in Roseburg. If he were there, he quickly could have taken down the evil, wicked person with his ready gun.
