Letters to the editor

Regarding the title of the WSU article Oct. 25, “One More Needed,” it showed again the recurring notion that the benchmark for WSU is just to become bowl-eligible. Is that all there is? In the fourth-year of Mike Leach, that’s the still the gold-standard?

There are 41 bowls this year. All being “bowl-eligible” means is you went .500.

Not long ago, “bowl-eligible” replaced the term “winning season” as a stock, modest goal. I understand taking things step-by-step, but it’s odd that .500 is still the repeated benchmark for WSU and Leach. Few sports reward a .500 season with a prize of any kind, except college football.

Mike Leach has been here long enough, why not up the standard a little?

Perhaps “winning season” could apply?
