Men’s soccer: Muelheims leads Whitworth past Linfield
Karl Muelheims scored his Northwest Conference-leading 16th and 17th goals of the season and Whitworth topped Linfield 3-1 Saturday in Spokane.
Michael Kleeman gave the Wildcats (8-10, 4-8) a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 14th minute, but the Pirates’ Tyler Cardinale tied it at 1 with an unassisted goal 4 minutes later. Both of Muelheims goals came in the second half.
Whitworth (14-1-1, 10-1-1) has two remaining regular season matches – at home against Willamette on Sunday and at Whitman next Saturday.
CCS blanks Walla Walla 3-0
Jonathan Cortez had a goal and an assist and Community Colleges of Spokane blanked Walla Walla 3-0 in a Northwest Athletic Conference regular-season finale at Spokane Falls Community College.
Mario Zarate and Breno Rocha also scored for the Sasquach (11-4-4, 9-3-3). CCS earned the East division’s top seed and have a first-round bye heading into the NWAC Championships. The Sasquatch will play a quarterfinal match next Saturday.
Walla Walla (9-4-6, 7-4-4) is the No. 2 seed in the East and will play a first-round match on Wednesday.
NIC ends season with 4-2 loss to Wenatchee Valley
Wenatchee Valley (6-7-4, 4-7-4) scored twice in each half and beat North Idaho 4-2 in an NWAC match in Wenatchee.
The match was the last of the season for the Cardinals, who finished 5-10-4 overall and 3-8-4 in conference matches.
