Big Sky roundup: Cal Poly stuns Montana with late field goal

Alex Vega nailed a 48-yard field goal with 4 seconds left to give Cal Poly a season-opening 20-19 nonconference win over Montana on Saturday in Missoula.

The Grizzlies (1-1) took a 19-17 lead with 3:43 to play on a safety when Chris Brown was called for intentional grounding in the end zone as he was being sacked.

North Dakota 24, Wyoming 13: John Santiago ran for 148 yards and two TDs to lead visiting North Dakota over the Cowboys. It was North Dakota’s first win over an FBS opponent in eight tries.

Northern Colorado 42, Western State 34: Jonathan Newsom threw two TD passes and rushed for a third to lead the Bears past the Mountaineers in Greeley, Colorado.

Idaho State 55, Black Hills State 0: Michael Sanders threw three TD passes to Madison Mangum and five overall to lead the Bengals over the Division II Yellow Jackets in Pocatello.

Sacramento State 41, Eastern Oregon 20: Daniel Kniffin threw for 282 yards and two TDs to lead the Hornets over the NAIA’s Mountaineers in Sacramento, California.

Northern Arizona 34, Stephen F. Austin 28: Emmanuel Butler caught seven passes for 216 yards and three TDs to lead the Lumberjacks to a win over Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
