In brief: Spokane man, 35, killed in crash near Cusick

From Staff Reports

Spokane resident Vladimir A. Lebedinski, 35, died in a one-car crash early Saturday morning 10 miles north of Cusick, Washington.

Lebedinski was driving his Ford pickup south on Le Clerc Road approaching Riverbend Loop Road when he failed to make a turn just after 1 a.m., according to the Washington State Patrol. His truck went off the road and hit several trees.

High speed is believed to be a factor, and Lebedinski was not wearing his seat belt, the WSP said. He died at the scene.

Two stabbed, one critically injured

Spokane police investigated two stabbings Friday; one of the victims suffered a life-threatening injury.

Police were called to Maxwell Avenue and Cedar Street early Friday evening for a fight between a man with a hammer and a man with a knife. The man with the hammer was stabbed in the neck and was in critical condition at a local hospital late Friday.

Police spokesman Cpl. Jordan Ferguson said it’s unclear if the man with the hammer was threatening the other man.

“We really don’t know who the instigator of this whole thing was yet,” he said. “We know that they did have a prior history.”

The case is still under investigation and no one has been arrested.

In a separate incident, a man was stabbed early Friday afternoon during a fight near an apartment building at Maple Street and Dean Avenue in north Spokane.

The victim was taken to a local hospital after the 12:30 p.m. stabbing, and his condition was unknown Friday evening.

Police are not sure if the victim and the suspect knew each other, police spokeswoman Officer Teresa Fuller said.

The suspect is described as possibly a light-skinned Hispanic male in his late 20s who was wearing a green T-shirt. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
