Rogers hangs tough against Lakeside rally

 Marcus Phillips ran for 111 yards and three touchdowns and Rogers withstood Lakeside’s second-half rally in a 35-26 nonleague win Friday night in Nine Mile Falls.

Lakeside (1-1) trailed 27-7 after Phillips’ 29-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, but scored 19 unanswered points to make things interesting.

The Pirates (1-1) put it away late in the fourth when Cole Shafer hauled in an 8-yard touchdown pass from J.J. Curry with 3:40 left and the two-point conversion put Rogers ahead 35-26.

Shafer finished with 142 yards passing and two scores. Lakeside quarterback Cameron Gay completed 20 of 32 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 6-yard run in the third quarter.

Colville 12, West Valley 7: William Burton ran for 81 yards and a touchdown and Brayden Flugel added 82 rushing yards as the Indians (1-1) edged the visiting Eagles (1-1). West Valley’s chance at a comeback was thwarted when Flugel came away with an interception with 1:28 left in the fourth. Colville’s Kameron Strobel had 15 tackles and an interception. West Valley was held to just one touchdown a week after putting up 45 points against Lakeland.

Pullman 47, Freeman 12: Mason Petrino threw for three touchdowns and added a 70-yard touchdown run as the Greyhounds (2-0) overwhelmed the host Scotties (1-1).

La Conner 47, Colfax 16: Budda Luna ran for 94 yards and two scores and Seth Schuh added 77 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Braves routed the Bulldogs (1-1) at Kittitas. Colfax’s Keith Gfeller ran for two scores in the second half.

Newport 38, Priest River 8: Otis Smith ran for 105 yards and two scores and added 80 passing yards and a touchdown in the Grizzlies’ (2-0) win over the host Spartans (0-3). Newport’s Jesse Reyes added 127 yards on the ground and a third-quarter touchdown. Tommy Anselmo scored Priest River’s lone touchdown – a 47-yard run in the third quarter. He finished with 114 rushing yards.

Asotin 32, Riverside 6: Blake Magnuson threw for 175 yards and two scores to guide the Panthers past the host Rams (0-2). Braden Jagannath hauled in both of his touchdowns. Asotin’s Colton Ball added 102 rushing yards and a third-quarter touchdown.

Warden 24, Chewelah 16: Drake Hansen rushed for 150 yards on 23 carries and scored twice to guide Warden past host Chewelah (1-1). Warden racked up 232 rushing yards in all. Stephen Beamer scored both of Chewelah’s touchdowns. He had a 7-yard run in the third quarter and a 70-yard kickoff return in the fourth.

Garfield-Palouse 28, Lakeside (Idaho) 12: Ian Neibergs racked up 114 receiving yards and two touchdowns and the Vikings (1-1) topped the Knights (0-1) in Palouse. Wyatt Griner led Garfield-Palouse’s rushing attack with 130 yards on 20 carries.

Wellpinit 62, Northport 12: Sophomore quarterback Brandon Flett threw for 189 yards and four touchdowns and the Redskins (1-0) dumped the host Mustangs (0-2). Dwight Brisbois added 145 rushing yards and two scores for Wellpinit. Dylan Owins had a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown for Northport.

Cusick 67, Pateros 12: Joe Cutshall ran for 142 yards and accounted for five total touchdowns in the Panthers’ (2-0) win over the visiting Billygoats (0-2). Cutshall scored three times on the ground, caught a touchdown pass and threw for another score. Spirit White added two rushing touchdowns – both coming in the first quarter – and Tyson Shanholtzer racked up 77 yards and a second-quarter touchdown. After a competitive first quarter, Cusick blew it open with 34 unanswered points in the second.

Troy 66, St. John-Endicott 16: Jonah Lay ran for 268 yards and three touchdowns as the Trojans dumped the Eagles (0-2) in St. John. Troy racked up 28 first-quarter points, putting the game away early.

Northeast 2B

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 40, Springdale 0: Bryce Esser threw for 159 yards and four touchdowns and the Broncos (2-0, 2-0) routed the host Chargers (0-2, 0-2). LRS also benefited from two special teams scores. Dylan Becker had an 80-yard kickoff return in the first quarter and Jacob Saetre capped the scoring in the third with a 73-yard punt return.

Northwest Christian 48, Kettle Falls 6: David Olds completed 10 of 16 passes for 228 yards and five scores to lead the Crusaders (1-0, 1-0) past the host Bulldogs (0-2, 0-2). NWC’s Ian Starkey hauled in three of those touchdowns. He finished with 133 receiving yards. The Crusaders’ Filan Perreiah added two scores, a one-yard plunge in the second quarter and a 75-yard kickoff return in the fourth.

Davenport 30, Wilbur-Creston 12: Loran Boggs racked up 138 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Gorillas (1-1, 1-1) beat the visiting Wildcats (1-1, 1-1). Davenport quarterback Jaden Flett threw for two scores. Dorrian Jaeger accounted for both of Wilbur-Creston’s touchdowns. He sneaked in from 1 yard out in the second quarter and threw a 45-yard pass to Tucker Odegaard in the fourth.
