Roundup: Eagles top Knights in GNL shootout

Jenna Sullens and Caitlyn Hossfeld each scored shootout goals to lift the West Valley Eagles (2-0) to a 3-2 victory over the visiting East Valley Knights in Great Northern League girls soccer action Tuesday.

Alexa Lee, with an assist from Madeline Liberg, staked WV to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. EV’s Madison Bastin scored in the 17th minute to knot the match. WV regained the lead on Peyton Ferguson’s goal. Ashley Meyer assisted on the score. EV pulled even again in the 56th minute on a goal by Kailee Hance-Brown.

WV keeper Rachel McGlothlen made a pair of saves to blank the Knights in the shootout. McGlothlen finished with 10 saves.

• Taylen Wohl and Taylor Bogle scored first-half goals and the Clarkston Bantams held off the host Cheney Blackhawks 2-1 in GNL play. Sydney Eaton scored for Cheney.

Volleyball

Jordan Phelan tallied 15 kills and three aces to lead the East Valley Knights to a 3-1 win over the visiting West Valley Eagles in GNL action.

• Taylor Gould had 18 assists and three aces, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the host Cheney Blackhawks from falling 3-2 to the Clarkston Bantams in GNL play.

• Malorie Stippich had five aces and Aaliyah Varate added 10 digs as Bonners Ferry swept host Priest River 3-0 in Intermountain League play.
