Liberty Lake cyclist hit by car, threatened

A bicyclist reported being hit by a car and threatened with a gun while riding down the street in Liberty Lake recently, but police were unable to locate the suspect because the man waited more than an hour to report the incident.

The incident reportedly happened in the 23000 block of East Appleway Boulevard at 9 a.m. Sept. 10. The bicyclist reported that a black Audi with Oregon license plates approached him from behind and swerved toward him, striking his left arm with the side mirror, said Liberty Lake police Chief Brian Asmus.

The cyclist said the Audi continued on briefly before making a U-turn. At that point the driver’s side window rolled down and the cyclist told police he saw the barrel of a gun come out the window, Asmus said. The cyclist pedaled away and the Audi briefly followed him again before turning and driving away.

The man continued to his destination and didn’t call police until 10:30 a.m., Asmus said. The cyclist wasn’t able to provide a description of the driver because the car had tinted windows, Asmus said.
