Blues & Brews Festival benefits Big Brothers, Sisters

The first Food Truck Blues & Brews Festival takes place Sunday afternoon in the north parking lot of the Steam Plant.

The event features live music, food trucks, cider and microbreweries. One ticket provides samples from each food truck and two samples of beer or cider. Music includes local bands Charlie Butts and the Filter Tips and The Fat Tones.

A portion of the proceeds will support Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest. A lighting ceremony of the Steam Plant smokestacks at dusk will celebrate the 50th anniversary of BBBS.

The event takes place from noon to 7 p.m. at 127 S. Lincoln St. Tickets are $25 for those 21 and over, $17.50 for those 13 to 20, and $10 for those 12 and under.

One more week

The Spokesman-Review launched its beloved Dorothy Dean Homemakers Service in October 1935. To celebrate 80 years since its inception, the Food section is looking for a few old Dorothy Dean recipes that could use some modernization.

Each person who shares a recipe that he or she thinks is in need of a makeover will be entered into a drawing for a cookbook. Contributions are due next Wednesday.

Dorothy Dean was the pseudonym for editors and writers who worked for the newspaper’s home economics department, which ended in 1983.

Send recipes and a note of explanation to Food Editor Adriana Janovich.
