In brief: Orlando’s reopens

The student-run restaurant at Spokane Community College opens Wednesday for fall quarter.

Themed weeks – Asian/Pacific Rim, Mediterranean and Latin/Caribbean – are planned. There’s a special brunch buffet Nov. 18 and Bistro Dinner Nov. 19 and 20. The popular Thanksgiving lunch is Nov. 24, and the final buffet is Dec. 8.

The restaurant is located in Building 1 on the SCC campus at 1810 N. Greene St. The hours are 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Coffee Brewer’s Competition

Roast House is hosting a Coffee Brewer’s Competition on Thursday night.

It costs $10 to enter, but all skill levels and brew methods are welcome. Roast House will provide participants – professional barristas and home brewers alike – with a free 1/2-pound of coffee for practice before the contest. There will also be music, prizes, beer and food for purchase. The contest celebrates the release of El Limonar coffee from Finca El Limonar in La Libertad, Guatemala. It starts at 6 p.m. at 423 E.
