Area roundup: Douglas, Cox help Sasquatch complete sweep

Evan Douglas doubled in the tying run in the top of the ninth inning and Mitchell Cox delivered an RBI single to score Douglas as the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (15-9, 4-6) earned an 8-7 victory and a sweep of their Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wenatchee Valley (3-19, 1-9) on Wednesday in Wenatchee.

Austen Jones picked up the win with three hitless innings of shutout relief for the Sasquatch.

CC Spokane breezed to an 11-1 seven-inning win in the opener.

Douglas belted his fourth home run of the season – a three-run shot and Tyler Huck went 4 for 4 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Austin Lee notched the victory with six shutout innings. He allowed just three hits.

Football

Spokane Empire running back Trevor Kennedy was named the Indoor Football League’s offensive player of the week for the second week in a row after his performance in a 97-72 win over the Colorado Crush.

Kennedy accounted for four touchdowns on the ground and three more through the air.

Rowing

The Gonzaga Bulldogs women’s varsity 8 was named the West Coast Conference crew of the month for March.

Gonzaga beat Pac-12 schools Oregon State and Washington State in a pair of dual meets. The crew is ranked 15th in the nation.
