(Age 94)

Albert Joseph Richards, Jr., passed away on February 14, 2016.

Al’s 64 years in Spokane, WA included St. Anthony Grade School, North Central High School and Gonzaga University.

He served in the Merchant Marine during WWII and attended the Merchant Marine Academy.

In 1946 he married Joyce (Jay) Close and they raised four children: Joyce, Pam, Matthew and Leslie.

Al is survived by his four children; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

His successful 35 year career in the Life Insurance business ended in 1985 when he retired to Whidbey Island.

Al enjoyed the outdoors and loved his hunting dogs.

He hunted deer and upland game birds and waterfowl with his many friends and brother Bob Richards.

He enjoyed salmon and crab fishing from his own boat.

He was an active golf enthusiast that started with the Inland Empire Golf Association.

He was a member of the Spokane Country Club (he was a 5 handicap) and later the 1996 Senior Club Champion at Useless Bay Golf & Country Club on Whidbey Island.

Al competed in several golf tournaments.

Al moved from Whidbey Island in 2012 and spent his last years at Marica’s Adult Family Home in Bellevue, WA.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at St. Thomas More Parish Chapel located at 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, Spokane, WA 99208 at: 11:00AM.

Following the service a light lunch will be served at the church.

The inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, N. 7200 W. Wall Street, Spokane, WA 99208 at 1:30PM.
