Police arrest man in Spokane Valley after multistate pursuit

From staff reports

Police arrested a man in Spokane Valley Thursday night after chasing him there from Post Falls on Interstate 90.

Coeur d’Alene police stopped Scott G. Salisbury, 53, around 10:45 p.m. at milepost 7 for a lane violation, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The release said Salisbury fled from the stop.

Police called the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in to assist with the pursuit. Deputies again tried to stop Salisbury, the release said, but he refused to pull over. He stayed under the speed limit at first and appeared to be talking himself during the chase, police said.

Deputies put down spike strips at milepost 1 near the Idaho-Washington state line. The release said Salisbury attempted to strike a deputy’s patrol car and continued fleeing.

Washington State Patrol, Liberty Lake Police and the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office took over the chase as it crossed into Washington. According to court documents, Salisbury took the Barker exit from I-90 and drove north at speeds more than 100 miles per hour, blowing through red lights and stop signs on the way.

The Sheriff’s Office was able to stop Salisbury after bumping his car to force him to lose control Salisbury was reportedly armed with a knife and refused commands to drop it and get out of the car, according to court documents. He was Tazed and struck once with a baton during a struggle with officers, court documents said.

Deputies arrested him on investigation of felony eluding, aggravated assault and driving under the influence. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond during a court appearance Friday.
