Driver arrested, pedestrians injured in overnight hit-and-run

A Spokane driver faces four felony charges for allegedly hitting a man and his son who were walking on a north Spokane sidewalk Sunday night.

Marshall G. Robel, 22, was driving at the intersection of N Standard St. and E Lincoln Road around 11:30 p.m. and failed to negotiate a turn, court documents say. A passenger in the car told officers Robel may have run a stop sign.

Robel’s car skidded about 90 feet and ran onto the sidewalk, where he hit the pedestrians, court documents say. He allegedly told his passenger that he wasn’t sure if he hit the people or not and drove to a friend’s house.

Police arrested him at that house soon after the crash.

One of the victims had a broken leg and the other had head injuries, police spokeswoman Officer Teresa Fuller said. Both were taken to the hospital.

Robel faces two counts each of vehicular assault and felony hit and run.

At a court hearing Monday, KREM reported Robel was released without bond due to his lack of criminal history.
