Charles A.

(Chip) Heitman was born July 3, 1929, in Chicago, IL.

Parents were Dr. Marjorie M. Heitman and John Andrews of Chicago.

Parents later divorced and Chip was re-named for his mother’s family.

At age one, Chip moved to Spokane where Marjorie established a medical practice and reared her two sons.
Chip attended Lewis & Clark High School where he was an outstanding track and cross-country athlete.

He graduated from Whitman College in 1951 and spent two years in the U.S. Army, mostly in France and post-war Germany.
Chip worked for GMAC in Spokane, the Dept.

of Commerce in Washington DC and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Jacksonville, FL.

In later years he lived in Spokane where he enjoyed running in Bloomsday races.

He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin at Glengary on Lake Pend Oreille, ID, with members of his extended family.
He is survived by his older brother, Dr. Richard A. Heitman of Colorado Springs and Richard’s four children: Jeffrey L. Heitman of Petaluma, CA, Dr. Gregory J. Heitman of Mesa, AZ, John R. Heitman of Spokane and Lisa Schmaling of Seattle.

Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


He passed away at Riverview Retirement Community on April 20, 2016.

The family is planning an inurnment this summer at the family plot in Rathdrum, ID.

His favorite salutation was “Cheers!”
