The Dirt: Goodwill and Planet Fitness move into former Albertsons
Planet Fitness and a Goodwill thrift store will fill remodeled space in a former Albertsons in Spokane’s Emerson-Garfield neighborhood.
Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest has leased about 20,000 square feet of space for a retail store and a back-room donation area at 1617 W. Northwest Blvd., between Maple and Ash streets. Heather Alexander, a Goodwill spokeswoman, said this will be the nonprofit’s 14th regional outlet.
It is expected to open in the fall.
Planet Fitness, which opened a Spokane Valley outlet for fitness workouts in 2015, will occupy about 24,000 square feet next door to Goodwill.
Albertsons closed the grocery store in July 2011, and the property had remained vacant.
Chris Bell, a Black Commercial broker who represented the property owner, said leases are being negotiated to construct new buildings along Northwest Boulevard, but those deals aren’t yet finalized.
New chiropractic office to be built
on North Division
Construction is underway in north Spokane on a $1.6 million office building at 11909 N. Division St.
The structure will include facilities for the Spokane Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic as well as practice spaces and operating room for Inland Oral Surgery.
Builders Etc. is the contractor.
The 14,000-square-foot building is part of a business partnership including Brian Mather, a chiropractor. The new building will include spaces for chiropractic and soft-tissue services and massage, studios for adult and youth fitness, and an indoor turf area for teams and athletes.
MOD Pizza opening in Shadle Center
A MOD Pizza outlet will go into the Shadle Center.
This is the Bellevue chain’s sixth restaurant in the Spokane-Coeur d’Alene area.
The chain plans to open a 3,000-square-foot restaurant in the shopping center, at 2503 W. Wellesley Ave.
The brokers were Carl Guenzel and Steve McIntosh, of Kiemle & Hagood, along with Ben Hawkins of Hawkins Edwards.
