From staff and wire reports

COLLEGE: Missouri is set to hire San Diego State athletic director Jim Sterk as its new athletic director.

San Diego State announced Monday night that Sterk had resigned after six years with the school and would take over at Missouri on Sept. 1.

Sterk, 60, will replace Mack Rhoades, who left for Baylor.

Sterk was recently honored as the A.D. of the year by National Association of College Director of Athletics.

Sterk was previously athletic director at Washington State from 2000-10 and at Portland State from 1995-2000.

San Diego State named Jenny Bramer interim athletic director.

Thumbs down to BYU from LBGTQ advocacy group: An LGBTQ advocacy group has sent a letter to the commissioner of the Big 12 urging the conference to remove BYU from consideration for membership because it says the school has discriminatory policies.

Athlete Ally, a nonprofit group that works with sports leagues and organizations on educational and awareness programs, wrote that “…through its policies, BYU is very clear about its intent to discriminate against openly LGBT students…”

BYU is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

The school’s honor code states that same-gender attraction is not an issue. But it does state “Homosexual behavior is inappropriate and violates the Honor Code.” The school honor code requires all students to commit to chastity outside of marriage.

Quadruple amputee claims Matterhorn 1st

MISCELLANY: A British mountaineer who climbed Switzerland’s iconic Matterhorn say he is the first quadruple amputee to do so.

Jamie Andrew, 47, lost his hands and feet to frostbite after becoming trapped in a snowstorm while mountaineering in France 17 years ago.

He spent five years training before attempting to reach the 14,692-foot Alpine peak last Thursday with two seasoned guides from the International School of Mountaineering.
