For cocktail creator, it’s a dream come true

A Spokane bartender has published a recipe book of fairy tale-inspired cocktails.

The spiral-bound softcover book features nearly 50 original drink recipes, including Evil Stepmother, Curious Cat, Red Queen, Pixie Dust and Fairy Drunk Mother. Oh, Bother – an homage to Winnie the Pooh – features honey vodka. But there’s no mention of Pooh on the page. In fact, there’s no reference to Disney in the book.

Disney, said 25-year-old bartender Cody Winfrey, sent him two cease-and-desist letters in the two years since The Spokesman-Review profiled the fairy tale fan and creator of the Cocktails by Cody brand. He’s since sought legal advice and copyrighted his recipes.

Now, “Fairy Tale Cocktails,” printed by Litho Art in Spokane, is selling for $18.99. Nearly all of the first 400 copies are already reserved. Last week, Winfrey was preparing to order the next round.
