Zags remain No. 8 in college basketball rankings

Gonzaga remained unbeaten with a win over ranked Arizona on Saturday but the Zags stayed put at No. 8 in the AP and USA Today rankings.

Xavier and Virginia, ranked just ahead of GU in last week’s polls, both lost and dropped out of the top 10. However, UCLA (9-0) defeated then-No. 1 Kentucky and jumped from 11 to two, and Baylor (8-0) climbed five spots in both polls (No. 4 AP, No. 6 USA Today) after beating Xavier for the Bears’ third top 10 victory.

Defending national champion Villanova replaced Kentucky at the top of the rankings. Saint Mary’s (6-0) of the WCC moved up to No. 11 in the coaches’ poll but remained at No. 12 in AP.

Gonzaga (8-0), which entertains Washington on Wednesday, has wins over No. 20 Arizona, No. 21 Florida and No. 25 Iowa State.
