Man killed in crash on state Route 291

From staff reports

A man was killed Thursday afternoon when the pickup he was driving veered into oncoming traffic about five miles north of Spokane.

Randy Peone, 49, of Ford, was headed south in a 2006 Dodge pickup on state Highway 291 when he collided with a northbound 2014 Infinity about 3:30 p.m., the Washington State Patrol reported in a news release. Peone, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Allison Powell, 26, of Colbert, was driving the Infinity. She was injured and transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

A 2013 Kia Sportage head north struck Powell’s driver’s side after the initial collision, WSP said. Driver of the Kia, Colbert resident Lisa Y. Carr, 46, also was injured and taken to Sacred Heart.

An infant, 4-year-old and 6-year-old riding in the Kia were uninjured.

Powell, Carr and the children were wearing seat belts or were properly restrained, WSP said.
