Agreed The Dodgers finalized their $20 million, two-year contract with free agent Howie Kendrick, bringing back the second baseman in part because of his willingness to play multiple positions.

The Baltimore Orioles reached agreement with left-hander Brian Matusz on a one-year, $3.9 million contract, avoiding arbitration.

Ex-Mariner reliever Fernando Rodney and San Diego completed their $2 million, one-year contract.

Decided Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Smyly has won baseball’s first salary arbitration case this year. Smyly asked the three-person panel for a raise from $2.65 million to $3.75. The Rays argued for $3.2 million.

Suspended Two minor league pitchers, Oakland right-hander Sean Murphy and San Diego righty Ryan Butler, have been suspended 50 games each for testing positive for a second time for a drug of abuse.

Died BMX bike superstar Dave Mirra, who also hosted MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules” challenge, has died of an apparent suicide. The 41-year-old was found dead in his truck in North Carolina with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Army hockey coach Jack Riley, who in 1960 guided the U.S. to its first Olympic gold medal in hockey, has died in Massachusetts. He was 95.

Scottish caddie Dave Renwick, who worked for three major champions and was on the bag for Vijay Singh’s greatest season, has died of stomach cancer. He was 62.

Fined Winnipeg Jets forward Alexander Burmistrov has been fined $2,000 for diving/embellishment. His second citation, which triggered the fine, was over a tripping penalty in the third period against Arizona on Jan. 26.

Announced Swimmer Michael Phelps is coming to Atlanta for one of his final tuneups heading into the Rio Olympics. Phelps is scheduled to take part in the Atlanta Classic swim meet May 13-15 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
