Deer Park company gets contract for dam locks work

Associated Press

KENNEWICK – Two dams in Washington are scheduled for $8 million in navigation lock repairs by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The Corps has awarded the work to Knight Construction and Supply of Deer Park.

The Tri-City Herald reported that work will be done on Ice Harbor Dam near Burbank and Lower Monumental Dam near Kahlotus between Dec. 12, 2016, and March 20, 2017. The inland navigation system on the Columbia and Snake rivers was already scheduled to close during that time.

Ice Harbor Dam navigation lock’s downstream lift gate hoist machinery will be upgraded. Most of the equipment needing replacement is more than 50 years old.

Similar work is planned at Lower Monumental Dam.
