Area roundup: Taylor’s layup sends CCS men past Blue Mountain

Levi Taylor’s layup with 4.1 seconds left gave the CC Spokane men’s basketball team an 88-86 win over Blue Mountain in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Spokane Community College on Friday night.

Taylor finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Race Martin tallied a team-high 21 points and Jake Love and Jacob DeVries each added 18.

Luke Meyers made all five of his 3-pointers and scored 25 points for Blue Mountain (10-13, 1-8). The Sasquatch beat the Timberwolves 95-83 in Pendleton, Oregon, on Jan. 16.

CCS (22-3, 8-1) hosts Treasure Valley at SCC on Saturday. The Sasquatch have five remaining regular season games.

Baseball

Whitworth (5-0) scored five runs in the seventh inning and withstood Southwestern’s ninth-inning rally in a 7-6 nonconference victory in Georgetown, Texas.

The Pirates’ Matthew Nelson went 3 for 6 with a run and and RBI and Daniel Casanova added two hits and two RBIs. Southwestern fell to 0-4.

Whitworth plays Emory and Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, on Saturday.
