Injured Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh’s All-Star participation for this year is over. He has withdrawn from the activities citing a strained right calf. Bosh was replaced on the Eastern Conference roster for Sunday’s game by Atlanta’s Al Horford.

Jettisoned RB Matt Forte won’t be returning to the Chicago Bears for a ninth season. The two-time Pro Bowler announced on Instagram that the team informed him it will not offer him a contract for next season. Forte will be an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team beginning March 9.

Re-signed The Green Bay Packers re-signed defensive tackle Letroy Guion, a move that could impact the return of fellow lineman B.J. Raji. The 6-foot-4 Guion had 20 tackles in 13 games in the 2015 season, starting four games.

Announced Auburn point guard Kareem Canty left the team and is turning pro. Tigers coach Bruce Pearl had suspended his leading scorer indefinitely last week for “conduct detrimental to the team.” Canty averaged 18.3 points, and also led the team in assists and 3-pointers.

Traded The Milwaukee Brewers traded OF Khris Davis to the Oakland Athletics for catcher Jacob Nottingham and RHP Bubby Derby. The A’s and Brewers each won only 68 games last year. The 28-year-old Davis hit 27 home runs last season, 10th most in the National League. He batted .247 with 66 RBIs.

Planned The Atlanta Braves are planning a new Hank Aaron statue at SunTrust Park, which will open in 2017. The Braves said they no longer will contest the ownership of the Aaron statue which sits at the main entrance to Turner Field. The Braves say they hope the current statue is preserved “in a manner befitting his legacy as the greatest Brave of all time.”

Hired The Baltimore Orioles hired Joe McIlvaine as senior adviser of player personnel. Most recently, he worked with the Seattle Mariners as special assistant to the general manager. He spent the previous 14 seasons with the Minnesota Twins. McIlvaine began his career as a scout for Baltimore from 1974-76.

Killed University of Mississippi volleyball player Ty Laporte was killed in a two-car accident. A Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman said the 23-year-old Laporte died Thursday night in Benton County, Mississippi, about 50 miles north of Oxford. The report says it appears Laporte pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler and the incident remains under investigation.
