Area roundup: CCS, NIC win

Levi Taylor led five players in double figures with 22 points and the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s basketball team topped Treasure Valley 99-79 in a Northwest Athletic Conference game Saturday at Spokane Community College.

Jake Love added 21 points and six rebounds and Dalton Patchen chiped in 13 points and 11 boards for the Sasquatch (22-3, 9-1).

Shareef Ingram made 3 of 5 3-pointers and scored 25 points for Treasure Valley (3-18, 1-9). The Sasquatch have four remaining regular-season games. They play at Walla Walla on Wednesday.

North Idaho 110, Utah State-Eastern 75: B.J. Blake scored 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting and the Cardinals (28-0, 13-0) routed the Golden Eagles (17-12, 4-10) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Price, Utah.

North Idaho made 14 of 23 3-pointers, forced 20 turnovers and had a 38-13 advantage in points off turnovers. The Cardinals’ Braian Angola-Rodas added 13 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

NIC hosts SWAC foe Salt Lake on Thursday.

Baseball

Ryan Bird’s double in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Whitworth an 8-7 walk-off win over Emory (3-1) in the opener of a doubleheader in Belton, Texas. Anthony Bonilla led off the inning with a double and scored the winning run on Bird’s hit.

The Pirates scored twice in the top of the ninth and beat Mary Hardin-Baylor (0-4) 8-6 in their second game.

Whitworth (7-0) plays Concordia on Sunday in Austin, Texas.

Track and field

Gonzaga’s Shelby Mills set a school record in the indoor 5,000-meter run at the Husky Classic in Seattle.

Mills finished in 16 minutes, 25.35 seconds, breaking Maggie Jones’ previous record of 16:45.78, set last year at the same event. Mills finished in 24th place.
