Obituary: Johnson, Melita Lenora

JOHNSON,
Melita Lenora

(Age 92)

of Potlatch, ID, went Home to be with her Lord Jesus December 28, 2015.

She had been recuperating from a stroke for the past four months at Aspen Care and Rehab Center, Moscow.

Melita was born August 18, 1923, in Colville, WA, to Lynn and Fern Mumau.

Fern passed away when Melita and her sister were young.

Their dad married Clara and the family eventually settled in Tensed, ID.

Clara died while Melita was still in high school.

After graduation from Plummer High School, Melita met and in 1942 married Ike Johnson, a logger and a widower with three young children, Dwaine, Vernon and Lorraine.

Ike’s first wife died a few days after giving birth to Lorraine.

Melita was a hard worker, caring for three children and then three more were born to her and Ike: Lynn, Lynda, and Karen.

Ike and Melita raised their children near Tensed, and later they moved to Potlatch, ID.

When the sons were no longer around to help Ike in the woods, Melita worked with her husband, slinging an axe and setting chokers.

She later worked as a caregiver in the homes of the elderly.

Melita loved to garden, bird watch, pick huckleberries, play cards, the piano and autoharp.

She was an avid reader but most of all, she loved to read her Bible, and wouldn’t miss church.

Melita was preceded in death by her husband (1978), daughter Lorraine, sister Delma, and two of her 12 grandchildren, Kim and Rick Johnson.

Survivors include children Dwaine (Barbara) of Deary, ID, Vernon of Potlatch, Lynn (Audrey) of Potlatch, Lynda of Colbert, WA, Karen of Potlatch (all last named Johnson), two half-brothers Daren and Arlynn Mumau, 10 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

Melita will be greatly missed by family and friends, but she is rejoicing with her Savior and Lord.
