Spokane County seeks volunteers for Civil Service Commission

Spokane County is accepting volunteers who are willing to divulge their political affiliation to serve on a commission tasked with reviewing the job performance of law enforcement.

The five-member Spokane County Civil Service Commission will have two vacancies beginning July 31. The volunteer board is tasked with reviewing the applications of potential law enforcement hires for the county and hears appeals of disciplinary actions taken against county employees.

Applicants must be registered voters who have lived in Spokane County for at least two years. They must also disclose their political affiliation, as only three of the members can support the same political party at any given time.

Meetings are the second Tuesday of every month at 2 p.m. at the county’s Human Resources Building, 1229 W. Mallon Ave. Members may also be required to review application files on other days.

Appointments last six years. Those interested in applying should contact Ginna Vasquez, clerk of the board of Spokane County Commissioners, by calling (509) 477-2265 or emailing gvasquez@spokanecounty.org. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
