Silvertips dominate Chiefs 4-1

EVERETT, Wash. – Patrick Bajkov scored twice, Carter Hart came 32 seconds from his league-leading seventh shutout, and the Everett Silvertips beat the Spokane Chiefs 4-1 in Western Hockey League play at Xfinity Arena on Sunday.

Hudson Elynuik broke up the shutout with an unassisted backhand shot. It was Elynuik’s 17th of the season and third in his last two games.

Hart made 20 saves and registered his 33th win of the season.

The Silvertips scored twice in the first 7 1/2 minutes, as Carson Stadnyk and Bajkov beat Tyson Verhelst (18 saves).

Everett (35-20-2-2) got two more in the second period with Bajkov adding his 14th.

The Chiefs fell to 28-23-5-3, fourth in the U.S. Division and seventh in the Western Conference. Spokane hosts Prince George at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday at the Arena.

Chiefs prospect Ty Smith earned a silver medal at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway as captain for Team Canada. Canada lost to the U.S. squad 5-2 on Sunday.
