Gonzaga, other Washington schools among top Peace Corps volunteer-producing universities nationwide

Gonzaga University tied with the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma as the top-ranked Peace Corps volunteer-producing schools in the nation among small colleges and universities. It’s the fourth year Gonzaga has achieved the top spot in the ranking.

Both Gonzaga and UPS had 18 undergraduate alumni volunteering in the Peace Corps last year.

Washington schools were well-represented in all the rankings. The University of Washington was No. 1 among large colleges and universities, with 72 Peace Corps volunteers; Western Washington University was No. 3 among mid-sized schools with 41 undergraduate volunteers; and The Evergreen State College was No. 4 in the small-school ranking, with 13 volunteers last year.

“Gonzaga graduates are committed to improving our world – and daily work to help create a world of peace, justice and greater understanding among people,” Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh said in a statement. “We are proud to receive this recognition on behalf of our worldwide alumni community, and so appreciate the opportunities the Peace Corps provides.”
