Idaho’s Drew Thompson leads heptathlon at Big Sky Championships

BOZEMAN – Idaho junior Drew Thompson leads the men’s heptathlon after four events following Thursday’s opening day of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Thompson posted 2,842 points, finishing in the top six in every event, including a first-place finish in the high jump (6 feet, 6 3/4 inches). Thompson placed third in the 60-meter dash (7.29 seconds) and tied for fourth in the shot put with a career-best 38-61/4.

Vandals junior Ian Middleton is in seventh place with 2,587 points. Middleton took third in the long jump at 21-4 3/4.

Eastern Washington’s Aaron Pullin did not finish.

Montana’s Erika McLeod leads the pentathlon after the first day with 3,882 points. Eastern Washington’s Jozie Kimes (3,131) is in 13th place.
