Women’s basketball: Phillips sparks EWU’s key win over Idaho

Tisha Phillips scored 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting and added six assists as Eastern Washington took over sole possession of second place in the Big Sky Conference with an 84-70 win over Idaho on Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney.

The win gave the Eagles (19-9, 13-3) the season sweep of the Vandals (20-8, 12-4).

Idaho responded to EWU’s fast start with a 17-2 run to end the first quarter. The Vandals faded late, however, and were outscored 26-13 in the fourth.

Hayley Hodgins added 18 points and Delaney Hodgins chipped in 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for the Eagles, who were playing in their home finale. Mikayla Ferenz led Idaho with 26 points. She made 6 of 9 3-pointers.

Eastern Washington plays Wednesday at Idaho State. The Vandals play at Weber State on Wednesday.

Utah 75, Washington State 69: Paige Crozon scored 28 points and pulled down 16 rebounds and the Utes (16-13, 8-10) erased a 12-point halftime deficit and beat the Cougars (14-15, 5-13) in a Pac-12 Conference regular-season finale at Beasley Coliseum in Pullman.

Danielle Rodriguez added 28 points and five assists for Utah, which got its offense rolling after a poor-shooting first half. The Utes made 19 of 32 shots, including 4 of 7 3-pointers, after halftime.

Washington State’s Borislava Hristova led a balanced offensive attack with 14 points and six rebounds and Caila Hailey added 11 points and three assists.

The Cougars will play in the conference tournament beginning Thursday at KeyArena in Seattle.

CC Spokane 74, Big Bend 47: Bri King had 18 points, four steals and four assists and the Sasquatch (23-6, 12-2) extended their winning streak to 12 with an easy victory over the Vikings (9-21, 3-11) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game in Moses Lake.

Gese Gruber added 14 points and six rebounds and Khadija Neumeyer chipped in 13 points for CCS, which erased an early deficit with a 23-14 second-quarter run.

It was the final game of the regular season for both teams. The Sasquatch will host an NWAC tournament first-round game on Saturday at Spokane Community College.

Washington 68, Colorado 47: Kelsey Plum led four players in double figures with 18 points and Talia Walton added 10 points and nine rebounds as the Huskies (20-9, 11-7) reached 20 wins for the fifth straight year with a win over the Buffaloes (7-22, 2-16) in a Pac-12 Conference regular-season finale in Seattle.

Katie Collier added 11 points and six boards for Washington, which forced 20 turnovers. Next up is the conference tournament.
