Women’s basketball roundup: Rodriguez helps send Utah past Washington State

Danielle Rodriguez made a go-ahead layup with 38 seconds left to help Utah beat Washington State 73-71 in a Pac-12 Conference game Saturday night in Salt Lake City. The win was the Utes’ eighth straight at home.

Washington State’s Borislava Hristova missed an open 3-pointer from the corner before the buzzer. Utah (9-3, 1-0) matched its win total from a season ago.

After trailing 41-28 at halftime, Hristova’s 3-pointer and 3-point play on consecutive possessions pulled the Cougars to 49-44.

Taylor Edmondson made a contested 3-pointer with 1:37 remaining in the fourth to give Washington State (9-4, 0-2) a 71-70 lead – its first lead of the game. The Cougars trailed by as many as 13.

Paige Crozon led the Utes (9-3, 0-1) with 15 points. Hristova scored 23 points for the Cougars and Edmondson tied a career-high with 17.

Washington State plays Pac-12 foe Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, on Monday.

Washington 76, Colorado 74: Kelsey Plum made a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left and the Huskies (11-2, 2-0) withstood the Buffaloes’ second-half rally in a Pac-12 win in Boulder.

Colorado (5-7, 0-1) erased a 20-point first-half deficit and took a five-point lead in the fourth, but Washington eventually regained control.

Chantel Osahor and Talia Walton scored 24 points apiece and Plum finished with 18 points and six assists for the Huskies.

Eastern Washington 60, North Dakota 57: Delaney Hodgins hit a go-ahead jumper in the final minute and the Eagles (8-6, 2-0) erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit and beat North Dakota (4-9, 0-2) in a Big Sky Conference game in Cheney.

Trailing 52-42, Eastern Washington went on a 12-0 run – capped by Ashlie Payne’s 3-pointer – to take a 54-52 lead with 3:27 left.

Delaney Hodgins led the Eagles with 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and Hayley Hodgins added 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Eastern Washington plays Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, next Saturday.

Idaho 66, Northern Colorado 56: Geraldine McCorkell made three fourth-quarter 3-pointers and finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in leading the Vandals (10-4, 2-0) past the Bears (5-7, 0-2) in a Big Sky game in Moscow, Idaho.

Christina Salvatore and Ali Forde added 10 points apiece for Idaho, which won the rebounding battle 37-29.
