Coming up: Saturday vs. Washington, noon (Pac-12 Wash.)

Outlook: The Cougars upended No. 25 UCLA last weekend to avoid a sweep in their first Pac-12 homestand. On Saturday, Washington State will have a chance to emerge from the first two weeks of conference play with a winning record against Pac-12 opponents after facing Washington. The Huskies are extremely athletic, and teams that can outrun the Cougars have given WSU trouble this year. But UW’s squad is also extremely young and its highs – a sweep of the Los Angeles schools last weekend – are matched in magnitude by its puzzling lows: giving UC Santa Barbara its fourth win of the season the week before last. The western Washington influence will be strong in this game as the Huskies have received heavy contributions from south Puget Sounders David Crisp and Dejounte Murray, and Cougars freshmen Viont’e Daniels and Robert Franks also grew up in the shadow of Mt. Rainier.
