Stream on Demand: ‘Sicario,’ ‘The Walk’ among titles hitting On Demand

What’s new for home viewing on video-on-demand and Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services.

Pay-per-view / video on demand

“Sicario,” a chaotic but compelling thriller set in the violence of the drug war on the Mexican border, tosses Emily Blunt into the middle of a mission where the details are withheld from her. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin co-star in the R-rated action drama.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt walks a high wire between the Twin Towers in “The Walk,” based on the true story. Also available in 3-D version on some systems. PG.

Also new: the drama “Infinitely Polar Bear” with Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana (R), the horror films “The Visit” from M. Night Shyamalan (PG-13) and “The Green Inferno” from Eli Roth (R), the Civil War western “The Keeping Room” with Brit Marling and Hailee Steinfeld (R), and the PG-rated musical fantasy “Jem and the Holograms” based on the ’80s cartoon.

Netflix

“Training Day” (2001) earned Denzel Washington an Oscar for his performance as a corrupt narcotics cop. Ethan Hawke co-stars as his rookie partner. R.

Streaming TV: “Foyle’s War: Seasons 8 and 9” brings the British mystery series into the Cold War, where Michael Kitchen brings his unflappable cool to British Intelligence.

Also new: “The Mysteries of Laura: Season 1” with Debra Messing as a New York homicide detective and single mother, and the British mystery “Agatha Christie’s Poirot: Series 13” with David Suchet and the final episodes of the long-running show.

For kids: the animated series “Dragons: Race to the Edge: Season 2” and “Sofia the First: Season 2.”

Amazon Prime Video

Before “The Big Short,” “Margin Call” (2011) explored the culture of greed that spawned the 2008 financial collapse. Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Zachary Quinto and Stanley Tucci star. R.

Also new: “Gosford Park” (2002) with a superb cast and an Oscar-winning screenplay by “Downton Abbey” creator Julian Fellowes, the sharp heist thriller “Inside Man” (2006) with Denzel Washington, and Cate Blanchett in “Elizabeth” (1998). All rated R.

Hulu

“Maison Close: Season 1” is a sexy French series about a high class brothel in 19th-century Paris (in French with subtitles). Also new: all three seasons of the sitcom “Happy Endings.”

HBO Now

“The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” brings back Maggie Smith, Judi Dench, Bill Nighy and the rest of the British retirees in India, and adds Richard Gere and Tamsin Greig to the curry. PG.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” (R) is available on Saturday.
