Big Sky roundup: Forte, White lift Vikings over Bobcats

Cameron Forte had 26 points and 11 rebounds and Bryce White tied his career high with 20 points Saturday to lead Portland State to a 77-70 victory over Montana State in Bozeman.

Forte, a Georgia graduate transfer, made 12 of 18 shots in picking up his fourth double-double this season.

The Vikings (6-8, 2-1 Big Sky) were only 3 of 15 from 3-point range, but 28 of 49 otherwise and outscored Montana State 42-22 in the paint.

Tyler Hall made four 3-pointers and scored 24 points for the Bobcats (7-9, 2-2).

White scored five points in a 9-2 stretch and the Vikings went up 72-66 with 41 seconds left. Zach Gengler then kept the Bobcats at bay with five free throws.

Montana 77, Sacramento 58: Jack Lopez had a career-high 21 points as the Grizzles (9-6, 4-0) had a strong second half to dominate the Hornets (7-7, 0-3) in Missoula.

Lopez, who scored 15 in the second half, nailed 5 of 8 from beyond the arc and made 8 of 12 field-goal attempts. Walter Wright made three from long range for 16 points and dished out a career-high 12 assists. Martin Breunig added 15 points while grabbing 16 rebounds for Montana, which has won five straight.

Weber State 85, Northern Colorado 68: Joel Bolomboy posted his 15th double-double in 16 games, scoring 14 points and grabbing 17 rebounds to help power the Wildcats (11-5, 3-0) past the Bears (4-12, 1-3) in Ogden, Utah, to win their third straight game to open the conference season.

The Wildcats have won six straight and Bolomboy is tied for the most double-doubles in the nation.

Weber State took a 40-34 lead at intermission and Richard Gittens hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 62-50 with less than 10 minutes to play. The Wildcats cruised home from there.

Northern Arizona 73, Southern Utah 63: Marcus DeBerry scored 18 points as the Lumberjacks (3-11, 1-2) defeated the Thunderbirds (3-10, 1-2) in Cedar City, Utah.

The win snapped an eight-game losing streak for Northern Arizona, which averaged 44-percent shooting from the field and 88 percent from the line. Kris Yanku scored 15 points with 11 rebounds, Felix Rivera-Vega had 10 points and 11 rebounds and Corey Brown chipped in 10 points.

North Dakota 84, Idaho State 76: Quinton Hooker led a trio of Fighting Hawks (7-8, 2-2 Big Sky) in double figures with 24 points as North Dakota picked up its first Big Sky road win of the season with an 84-76 victory and improved to 6-0 all-time against the Bengals (6-9, 1-2 Big Sky) in Pocatello.

Corey Baldwin chipped in with a career-high 22 points and Carson Shanks also added a career-high with 16 points. North Dakota made a season-high 59.6 percent of its field goals and the hot shooting helped the visitors overcome a season-high 21 turnovers and a scoring barrage by Ethan Telfair, who finished with 37 points for Idaho State.
