Pac-12 roundup: Trojans upset Wildcats in fourth overtime

Elijah Stewart scored a career-high 27 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 22 seconds left in the fourth overtime, helping Southern California edge No. 7 Arizona 103-101 Saturday in Los Angeles to improve to 11-0 at home for the first time since the 1974 season.

Arizona’s Gabe York dribbled around as the clock wound down and lost the ball before the Wildcats recovered only to see Kadeem Allen’s 3-point attempt fall short at the buzzer.

Julian Jacobs added 18 points, and Jordan McLaughlin and Nikola Jovanovic had 17 each for the Trojans (14-3, 3-1 Pac-12), who hung in and hung on after blowing a 12-point lead with 5 1/2 minutes to go in regulation. They snapped a three-game skid against Arizona. USC has won eight of its last nine.

Allonzo Trier scored 25 points and York added 21 for the Wildcats (13-3, 1-2).

Oregon State 77, California 71: Gary Payton II had 20 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and four steals as the Beavers (11-3, 2-1 Pac-12) hung on to beatthe Golden Bears (12-5, 2-2) in Corvallis, Oregon.

Tres Tinkle scored 15 points for Oregon State who broke a five-game losing streak to Cal.

Jaylen Brown had 20 points and seven rebounds and Jordan Mathews had 16 points, including four 3-pointers, for California.

Mathews hit a 3-pointer with 1:01 remaining and the Golden Bears trailed 73-71. With 30 seconds left, however, Payton made a jumper, was fouled, and sunk the free throw, putting Oregon State up 76-71. Mathews missed his first 3-pointer with 16 seconds left.

UCLA 81, Arizona State 74: Isaac Hamilton scored 26 points, Aaron Holiday hit the tiebreaking 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining, and the Bruins (11-6, 2-2 Pac-12) topped the Sun Devils (10-6, 0-3) 81-74 in Los Angeles.

Holiday’s 3-pointer from the top of the circle broke a 74-74 tie with 1:13 left. The shot was the last of nine lead changes in the final nine minutes. Bryce Alford added a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left to seal it.

The victory comes two days after Alford hit a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds to upset No. 7 Arizona.

Alford finished with 18 points and Thomas Welsh had 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds for UCLA.

Tra Holder scored a career-high 26 points to lead Arizona State.
