The 73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards: It may not be Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show, but this celebration of movies and television is almost always the most fun. Why? Because booze flows freely and the stars tend to be in a loose, let-’er-rip mood. Returning as host is snarky Ricky Gervais, who is always at his best when he takes a needle to the most bloated celebrity egos. 5 p.m. Sunday, NBC.

SUNDAY: The gloriously dysfunctional Gallagher clan returns for Season 6 of “Shameless.” It begins with Frank (William H. Macy) mourning the loss of his lover Bianca and going on a spiritual quest that freaks out his family. 9 p.m., Showtime.

MONDAY: “Cake Wars” becomes obsessed with “Star Wars.” In tonight’s season opener, contestants create desserts inspired by the box-office juggernaut. 9 p.m., Food Network.

MONDAY: “The Marijuana Revolution” documentary examines the rapidly changing pot industry through growers, smokers, opponents and entrepreneurs. 9 p.m., History Channel.

TUESDAY: “MADtv’s 20th Anniversary Reunion” has former cast members of the iconic sketch-comedy series reuniting to celebrate its legacy. Included: Clips from the show’s 14 seasons, featuring memorable characters and moments. 8 p.m., The CW.

TUESDAY: “Fit to Fat to Fit” applies a strange twist to the weight-loss genre. Personal trainers willingly put on some pounds in an effort to better understand the challenges their clients face. Then they join forces to fight flab. 10 p.m., A&E.

WEDNESDAY: In the new futuristic drama “Second Chance,” a 75-year-old disgraced sheriff dies while trying to stop a crime and is resurrected by a couple of tech billionaires. Now, a younger version of himself (Rob Kazinsky) has another chance at life – but it comes at a cost. 9 p.m., Fox.

WEDNESDAY: Class is in session as “Teachers” makes its debut. It’s a raucous new sitcom about six elementary school educators trying to mold young minds – even though their own lives are kind of a mess. 11 p.m., TV Land.

THURSDAY: George Lopez is our host for “The World Dog Awards.” It’s a pet project that includes tributes to standout canines in categories such as best dressed, top trick and most pawpular. And, no, we are not making this up. 8 p.m., The CW.

THURSDAY: In sci-fi mystery “Colony,” a former FBI agent (Josh Holloway) and his wife (Sarah Wayne Callies) are separated from their son after Los Angeles has been invaded. They’re in a race to find him and save humanity. 10 p.m., USA.

FRIDAY: If you can’t stand the heat, get away from “Hell’s Kitchen.” Season 15 debuts with chef Gordon Ramsay welcoming contestants to verbally abuse. 9 p.m., Fox.

SATURDAY: “Saturday Night Live” returns from its holiday break with a fresh batch of laughs. The new year’s first host is Adam Driver, who plays Kylo Ren in that little space movie you might have heard of. 11:30 p.m., NBC.
