In brief: Great Outdoors Day in Coeur d’Alene

HUNTING – North Idaho’s fourth annual Great Outdoors Day, with vendors and speakers geared especially to hunters and anglers, is set for Saturday, 11a.m.-3 p.m. at Lake City Community Church, 6000 Ramsey Rd.

Entry is $5.

Featured speakers include:

–Gary Johns, a hunter and guide with Jasiri Pro Safaris, speaking on hunting in five African countries.

–Nick Orth, of Wildlife Creations Taxidermy in Coeur d’Alene, speaking on field dressing and preparing animals for taxidermy mounts.

In addition, official measurer Larry Carey from Spokane will answer questions on measuring big game antlers and skulls. Carey is trained and certified by the Boone and Crockett Club, the Pope and Young Club (archery), and the Longhunter Society (muzzleloader).

Idaho Fish and Game Department staff and sportsman club representatives will be on hand and home-made chili and cornbread will be served in the lobby.

Hunters can bring in trophies harvested in 2015 for a display table and to have questions answered about measuring them. However, trophies will not be officially measured at this event.
