Girls basketball roundup: Newport upsets Chewelah

Cydni Lewis had 11 points and five steals and Faith Rosen added 10 points, including six in the fourth, as Newport upset Chewelah 40-30 in a Northeast A League game Friday night in Newport.

The Grizzlies held a one-point halftime lead, but outscored the Cougars 13-8 in the third and 9-5 in the fourth.

Chewelah’s Maggie Cobb and Krislyn Koler combined for 21 points.

The Cougars won seven straight from Dec. 11 to Jan. 5, but have dropped two of their last three.

The teams meet again Feb. 9 at Chewelah.

Freeman 48, Deer Park 31: Isabelle Miller and Sydney Sather scored 11 points apiece and Avery Oja grabbed nine rebounds as the Scotties (6-7, 4-3) opened the game on an 18-1 run and eased past the visiting Stags (1-11, 1-7). Deer Park’s Destanne Sunchild scored eight.

North Star

Wallace 60, Mullan 31: Maryssa Hogamier led a balanced attack with 13 points and the Miners jumped ahead early and cruised past the host Tigers. Gretchen Farkas added 10 for Wallace. Mullan’s Charlie Sadler led all scorers with 20.

Kootenai 54, Genesis Prep 46: Kaili Gentry scored 20 points on 9-of-18 shooting and Alison Short added 17 points and six rebounds as the Warriors edged the Jaguars in Harrison. Genesis Prep’s Shaye Schreibeis scored 26.

Northeast 2B

Liberty 61, Reardan 51: Christine Denny made 14 of 17 free throws and finished with 36 points as the Lancers (8-6, 4-4) topped the host Indians (4-9, 1-7). Reardan’s Gabby Singer and Jadyn Landreth scored 14 and 10, respectively.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 46, Springdale 30: Tessa Jantz led three players in double figures with 13 points and added nine rebounds as the Broncos (10-3, 7-2) built a 24-13 halftime lead and beat the host Chargers (4-8, 3-7). LRS’ Tommi Swannack and Peyton Curtis added a combined 22 points and Madi Harder pulled down 12 rebounds. Springdale’s Nichole Beckman scored 12.

Colfax 49, Wilbur-Creston 32: Taylor Garcia scored 17 points and Carmen Gfeller added 15 as the Bulldogs (8-5, 6-3) overcame a slow start and beat the Wildcats (4-7, 2-6) in Creston. Colfax trailed 14-8 after the first quarter, but outscored Wilbur-Creston 18-4 in the second. The Wildcats’ Karlee Maioho scored 10.

Northeast 1B

Republic 93, Wellpinit 44: Shania Graham made five of the Tigers’ 13 3-pointers and scored 27 points to help lead Republic (14-0, 9-0) to a win over the visiting Redskins (4-8, 3-4). Demi Jo Vaughn added four 3’s and 20 points and Lily Beckwith chipped in three 3’s and 16 points. Wellpinit’s Fawn Ford scored 13.

Selkirk 41, Valley Christian 38: Hannah Rick had 18 points and 11 rebounds and the Rangers (7-6, 5-4) erased a 10-point halftime deficit and beat the host Panthers (6-7, 4-4). Jenna Couch added eight points for Selkirk, which outscored Valley Chrsitian 14-2 in the third quarter. The Panthers’ Phoebe Trigsted had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 53, Cusick 32: Tiffany Boutain scored 17 points and Berlyn Hunt added 15 as the Warriors (11-1, 8-0) topped the host Panthers (6-6, 6-4). Cusick’s Renee Wynne scored 12.

Odessa-Harrington 46, Inchelium 26: Katie DeWulf had 20 points and seven steals as the Titans (4-8, 4-3) came away with 20 steals in a win over the Hornets (2-8, 1-7) in Odessa. Odessa-Harrington’s Casey Schlomer added 14 rebounds and six steals.

Curlew 49, Columbia 15: Megan Joe Beedle scored 14 points and Annaliese Fanning added 10 as the Cougars (3-9, 2-7) grabbed control early and cruised to an easy win over the Lions (0-9, 0-7) in Hunters. Curlew went ahead 18-2 in the first quarter.

Southeast 1B

Colton 78, Oakesdale 38: Dakota Patchen scored 19 points and Meghan Devorak added 18 as the Wildcats (12-1, 8-0) dumped the host Nighthawks (8-5, 3-4). Anne Hockett and Jacey Johnson scored 10 points apiece for Colton.

St. John-Endicott 56, Pomeroy 49: Gracie Dickerson scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Eagles (7-6, 3-4) edged the host Pirates. Abby Glorfield chipped in 17 for SJE, which used a 15-10 third-quarter run to establish control. Pomeroy’s Sydney Smith scored 24.

Garfield-Palouse 60, LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 17: Katie Arrasmith had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Keely Burnes added 10 points, four steals and four assists as the Vikings (4-8, 1-6) eased past the visiting Tigercats (2-8, 0-7). Payson Griner added 11 points for Garfield-Palouse.
