Hired Former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke has been hired as the defensive coordinator at Oregon. Hoke replaces Don Pellum, who was defensive coordinator for two seasons and has returned to coaching linebackers for the Ducks

Sidelined Bulls center Joakim Noah likely will miss the rest of the season after he dislocated his left shoulder during the first half of a loss to Dallas. The team says Noah will undergo surgery to stabilize his ailing shoulder. The procedure will sideline him for four to six months.

Recalled The Chicago Bulls have recalled forward Cristiano Felicio from the Canton Charge of the NBA Development League with Joakim Noah sidelined by a separated left shoulder. Felicio has played in two games for the Bulls this season.

Extended Anze Kopitar agreed to an eight-year, $80 million contract extension with the Kings, keeping Los Angeles’ franchise center with the club through the 2023-24 season.

Died Former Colts coach and broadcaster Ted Marchibroda has died at age 84. Marchibroda coached the Colts twice – in Baltimore from 1975-79 and in Indianapolis from 1992-95.

Withdrew Kobe Bryant dropped out of consideration for a spot on this summer’s U.S. Olympic basketball team. The five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist had previously said he wanted to experience the games one last time, but decided it was time to pass the torch to others.

Investigated Tulsa police are investigating after an off-duty officer heckled NASCAR star Tony Stewart and was confronted by the driver. The confrontation happened at the weeklong Chili Bowl dirt-track racing event at the Tulsa Expo Center. Fans posted videos online shortly afterward showing Stewart and the fan locking hands and engaging in heated conversation. The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office says the heckler was Cpl. Kyle Hess with the sheriff’s office.

Rescheduled America’s top sprinter Allyson Felix earned her first win of the 2016 Games, when international track and field officials agreed to shift the schedule in Rio so Felix can try for gold in both the 200- and 400-meter races. The IAAF moved the opening round of the women’s 200 from evening to the day session Aug. 15. That would give Felix a chance to run the 200 heats then have enough time to recover for the 400 final that evening.
