North Idaho remains unbeaten

Brayon Blake did his damage from the field, Braian Angola Rodas cleaned up with a 100-percent performance at the free-throw line and the North Idaho Cardinals followed his suit Thursday night and remained perfect on the season with a 76-62 victory over the visiting Colorado Northwestern Spartans.

Blake scored a game-high 27 points and Rodas - 12 of 12 at the line - chipped in 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the top-ranked Cardinals (22-0, 7-0 Scenic West Athletic Conference) as they raced to a 12-point halftime lead and cruised past the Spartans (3-19, 0-8), who were outrebounded 51-34 by the hosts.

Alex Therrien led CNCC with a team-high 14 points and Cameron Coles added 13 points but was marred by a game-high 11 turnovers to go along with five assists.

Women’s hoops

Geraldine McCorkell scored 16 points, Christina Salvatore added 15 points and 10 rebounds and Idaho defeated visiting Montana 78-61 in a Big Sky Conference game in Moscow, Idaho. Renae Mokrzycki also scored 10 points for the Vandals (13-5, 5-1), who dominated the visiting Griz (11-7, 4-3) in points off turnovers (24-11), second-chance points (16-7) and bench scoring (27-14)

NIC 86, Colorado NW 56: Maci Benedict scored a game-high 16 points, at least 10 Cardinals players scored six points and host NIC (16-4, 4-3 SWAC) rolled to a victory over the Spartans (8-12, 0-8). Kelsey Harvey led CNCC with 12 points.

Athlete of the week

Eastern Washington senior Kaytlyn Coleman was awarded Big Sky Field Athlete of the Week honors after recording a season-best throw of 62 feet, 8 1/2 inches Saturday at the UW Preview in Seattle.
